DESCRIPTION:Cistercian landscapes as European heritage Within decades\, the Cistercian reform order spread throughout Europe in the High Middle Ages. They shaped their own type of cultural landscape: the Cistercian landscape. Such Cistercian landscapes can be found all over Europe. 17 former Cistercian abbeys from five countries have been jointly awarded the European Heritage Label as Cisterscapes – Cistercian landscapes connecting Europe – 2024. The lecture will explain why and for what this revival of a historical network has received the award and what cultural activities Cisterscapes will be initiating in the coming years. The cultural heritage network is coordinated by the district of Bamberg.   Ebrach\, the oldest cistercy on the right bank of the Rhine\, is located here. The once rich and powerful abbey in the Steigerwald is an important milestone in the spread of the Order to the East Franconian-German Empire and beyond. SUMMARY:Wechterswinkel Monastery: Exhibition Kloster erLEBEN - Women's lives in the Middle Ages
DESCRIPTION:In the Middle Ages\, the vast majority of the population lived in the countryside. Women carried out a variety of tasks in addition to the strenuous work in the fields: They prepared the daily meals\, washed clothes\, hauled water and made clothes for their families. The only way to escape the grueling cycle of childbearing and hard physical labor was to live in a monastery. It was only in the flourishing cities of the late Middle Ages that new opportunities opened up for women. Women were successful in trade\, they worked in many trades\, ran merchant stores or sold their products. The economic development of the cities\nhad a lasting effect on the position of women. The exhibition highlights the different roles of women in the Middle Ages. The many tasks that women had to perform are vividly illustrated\, from basket weaving to feather grinding\, from gathering herbs to brewing beer\n.        \nThe exhibition “Women’s lives in the Middle Ages”\nwas conceived by the art historian\nDr. Alice Selinger\, Dreieich. \nSaturday\, 15.03.2025 to Sunday\, 22.06.2025 \nEXHIBITION\nThe exhibition is complemented by an accompanying program for different age groups\n. DESCRIPTION:Ceremony and reception to mark the receipt of the European Heritage Label for Cistercian Cultural Landscapes “Cisterscapes connecting Europe” and the inauguration of the reconstruction of the Gothic wayside shrine in the Maulbronn Old Cemetery on Sunday\, March 16\, 2025\, at 11 a.m. in the Maulbronn Town Hall (former fruit cellar of Maulbronn Monastery). \nParticipation in the Cultural Heritage Label is another outstanding distinction of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Maulbronn Monastery and its cultural landscape developed by the former Cistercian monks\n. Maulbronn Monastery was situated between the Rhine\, Neckar and Enz rivers and has left its lasting mark on numerous places and landscapes – in agriculture\, viticulture\, fruit growing and in the forests. The innovative hydraulic engineering and engineering skills of the Cistercians in the Middle Valley were outstanding. What was produced in the farmsteads and granges and collected in the Pfleghöfe was brought to market via the town courtyards. DESCRIPTION:The period around 1500 was an era of transition from the religiously influenced Middle Ages to a new world in which people shaped their “this world” in a more self-confident and planned manner. In all areas of life\, people gradually broke away from the overpowering ecclesiastical authority\, sought more rational answers and learned new things in many areas. In art and science\, in agriculture\, warfare and communication\, the dynamics of the modern age were evident\, accompanied by a new freedom of thought. Previous power relations were called into question and criticism of outdated structures became more diverse. The Reformation shook the foundations of the old empire. Unrest and change were in the air and also affected the “common man”. The huge uprising of the peasantry ended tragically in 1525. The domain of Maulbronn Monastery and its surroundings were also caught up in this dynamic. The conference aims to trace the factors that significantly influenced the political\, economic and intellectual-cultural conditions in this area and what characterized the period of upheaval here in the rural region between the Electoral Palatinate and Württemberg. After the political order of Charlemagne\, the Carolingian Empire began to disintegrate. Before and after the turn of the millennium\, political reorganization began between the Enns and the Vienna Woods and north of the Danube.   \nThe work of the Cistercian Bernard of Clairvaux and his monastic reform work in France reached as far as Zwettl in the Waldviertel. DESCRIPTION:The monastery landscape of Zwettl Abbey\, which has been awarded the European Heritage Label\, also includes elements that are located on the site of today’s military training area. These include the former pilgrimage church of St. Thomas in Dachsgraben\, which was abandoned under Emperor Joseph II and possibly dates back to pre-Christian cults.  \nThe excursion participants take a bus to the Allentsteig military training area. Colonel Julius Schlapschy will give an introductory lecture at TÜPL. The group then visits the former pilgrimage church of St. Thomas in Dachsgraben and the quarry in Pötzles and Döllersheim. SUMMARY:ARGE Fisch Tirschenreuth educational trip to Austria\, Waldviertel and South Bohemia: Pond management - current challenges
DESCRIPTION:ARGE Fisch in Tirschenreuth\, in cooperation with TEGOF and Fischerzeuger-Ring\, is planning an educational trip on the topic: Current challenges in pond farming and how other regions in Europe are dealing with them. This year\, we will be traveling to the Austrian Waldviertel and South Bohemia. We in the Waldviertel are particularly interested in the recognition of the pond area as “agricultural cultural heritage (GIAHS)”. The program includes information on organic carp\, otters\, regional marketing\, fish processing and the touristic use of the pond landscape. Factory tours are planned in Litschau\, Waidhofen/Thaya\, Haslau\, Weitra and at the Schuh fish leather factory in Reitzenschlag. Visits to the Zwettl Monastery and Vyssi Brod Monastery complete the program. \nThe tasting of regional specialties\, including smoked carp caviar\, the exchange of experiences with carp princess Michaela Altmann and the Waldviertler Teichrangern and other creative ideas for a sustainable carp pond economy can give us many new impulses. On the outward and return journey we will visit the Czech pond area near Budweis. The area is characterized by huge ponds with hundreds of hectares and large farms that cultivate several thousand hectares of ponds.\nAs always\, the participants will be well catered for. \nTravel date: Wednesday June 18 to Sunday June 22\, 2025. \nThe educational tour starts and ends in Schönficht\, Tirschenreuth district. \nThe price for the educational trip incl. including all entrance fees\, meals according to the program and accommodation in a double room is expected to be around 850 euros. \nPre-registration with Dr. Ransberger at: mariya.ransberger@tirschenreuth.de

DESCRIPTION:KultTOUR: Saturday\, June 28\, 2025   \nwith District Administrator Johann Kalb \nAs part of the 10th CITY CYCLING 2025 in the district of Bamberg\, the district is offering 10th anniversary tours in cooperation with the municipalities and other partners. \nIn cooperation with Cisterscapes and the parish of Schlüsselau\, one of the 10th TOURS takes the KultTOUR to Schlüsselau to the former Cistercian monastery. \nProgram starts on site at 11:00 am. \nThe surrounding communities are planning feeder trips there! Information from the respective municipality.  \nActions: \n11:00 am – 3:00 pm: \nLocation: Klostergarten and village square in Schlüsselau \n– Children’s program with craft activities and fishing pond \n– Actions Farmers’ Museum Frensdorf \n– Medieval monastery kitchen with cooking area \n– Information stands \n– in front of Gasthaus Bittel: drinks and pizza \n– in the monastery garden: coffee and cake\, barbecue stand and drinks \n14:00 – 15:00: \nPlace: Pilgrimage church Schmerzhafte Dreifaltigkeit in Schlüsselau \n– Concert by the Capella Antiqua Bambergensis \nPoster \n  \n
