SUMMARY:Tirschenreuth: Guided tour
DESCRIPTION:Over three summers 800 years ago\, up to a hundred farmers from the Waldsassen monastery toiled daily at the sawmill to cut an artificial channel through the local granite and gneiss for the Waldnaab. Using a hammer and chisel\, without black powder or other technical equipment\, around 500 cubic meters of stone were broken out of the rock over a distance of 80 meters. The result was the outlet of the lower town pond\, which was completed in 1219. This masterpiece of high medieval pond construction still fascinates visitors today. \nDuration: approx. 30 min.\nAt least. 5\, max. 20 persons \nRegistration for the respective event is possible at the Tourist Information Tirschenreuth under 09631/600248. \nGroup bookings are also possible on request.
