Libraries as places of European history: Waldsassen – Library of the Cistercians and K\u00f6nigswart Castle – Library of Prince Klemens Metternich<\/strong><\/p>\n

The two EKS sites, K\u00f6nigswart Castle and cisterscapes-Waldsassen, have worked together to develop a program aimed at young people aged between 10 and 16 from Germany and the Czech Republic and to connect them across national borders.<\/p>\n

Both K\u00f6nigswart Castle and the monastery town of Waldsassen with its surrounding monastery landscape are frequently visited by adults interested in culture. However, both sites are less popular with young people. They are probably unaware that behind centuries-old castle and monastery walls lies much that directly affects their current lives. <\/p>\n

With an age-appropriate booklet and transnational project days for young people from Germany and the Czech Republic, those responsible at both sites have created an opportunity to explore the lives and thoughts of the two great Europeans Bernhard von Clairvaux (Waldsassen) and Prince von Metternich (K\u00f6nigswart). There are also parallels between the two places due to the existence of important, nationally known libraries, which the young people also discover. <\/p>\n

In order to get young people interested in European heritage, not only as part of the current project co-financed by the European Union and GOPA PACE, training days are held for local tour guides in both Waldsassen and K\u00f6nigswart.<\/p>\n
