The State Palaces and Gardens of Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg hosted an international professional exchange this week: The leaders of the Cistercian monasteries of Alcoba\u00e7a (Portugal), Poblet (Spain), and Fountains Abbey (England) gathered at Maulbronn Monastery. All four monasteries share the distinction of being designated as World Heritage Sites, which means they are subject to high standards for historic preservation and cultural heritage education. The visit focused on the question of how historic sites can be made accessible and engaging for diverse audiences. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe exchange with colleagues from the international World Heritage network is of great value to us. We share experiences, learn from one another, and work together to develop ideas for the future of our monuments,\u201d explains Patricia Alberth, Executive Director of the State Palaces and Gardens of Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg.<\/p>\n
On behalf of the Cisterscapes Network, we are delighted about the cross-border collaboration within the European Cistercian network. This form of personal exchange thus also promotes the continuation of the planned Cisterscapes activities while simultaneously increasing the visibility of our shared cultural heritage. <\/p>\n
Background: The Maulbronn Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is not a formal member of the Cisterscapes network; the town of Maulbronn is a Cisterscapes partner and, as such, also holds the European Heritage Label.<\/p>\n
