The Cisterscapes WEB-GIS database www.database.cisterscapes.eu currently contains around 2,750 elements from a total of 19 monastic landscapes. 17 landscapes alone are part of the Cisterscapes network, which has been awarded the European Heritage Label since 2024. The database also includes elements from “external” partners: currently from the Morimond Monastery Landscape in France and the Alcobaça Monastery Landscape in Portugal.

Would you like to find out more about these monastic landscapes?

Then simply select the language at the top right of www.database.cisterscapes.eu and select the relevant location in the search field or directly on the map.

You can also find the complete cultural landscape reports in pdf format directly on our homepage www.cisterscapes.eu under the menu item “Cultural heritage sites” or at www.cisterscapes.eu/downloads/klosterlandschaften.

Please note: This database is constantly under construction! It is a large data archive of the cultural landscapes of the Cistercians. The Cistercian order was founded in 1098 and spread rapidly throughout Europe in the first 200 years!

The Cistercians are often referred to as the first Europeans! And the Cisterscapes network (17 partners in 5 countries) also acts in this spirit. We network with our European partners to make our common cultural heritage accessible to a broad public and to learn from each other!
