With a training course for members of the European Network of Cistercian Heritage and an expert presentation by Dr. Thomas Büttner at the two-day conference (21/22.11.2025), Cisterscapes/Landkreis Bamberg was a guest for the third time at this top-class meeting with partners from all over Europe. Representatives of the Altenberg, Kostanjevica na Krki and Waldsassen monasteries from the Cisterscapes network were also present. A strong sign of cross-border cooperation!Under the title “Celebrating cultural diversity, promoting inclusion”, various formats for communicating the cultural heritage of the Cistercians were presented and discussed.A second focus was on the topic of “cultural landscape”, which was explored together as part of an excursion. Particularly impressive were the elements of the Cistercians’ medieval water management that still exist today, as they reclaimed a large area between the Atlantic and the mountains from the mid-12th century onwards.
