The district of Bamberg, together with its Cisterscapes partners Altenberg, Waldsassen and Kostanjevica na Kri, was once again a guest at this year’s International Meeting of Cistercian Monasteries in the Portuguese monastery of Alcobaça. Between November 21-23, 2025, the site managers presented their respective programs and measures under the title Celebrating cultural diversity, promoting inclusion. Prior to the event, the members of the network received training on mapping the historic cultural landscape. This training is a contribution to the collaboration between the Cisterscapes network and the Network of Cistercian Heritage, which was launched in 2023. In preparation for the training and the final excursion on November 23, the cultural landscape of the Alcobaça monastery was recorded as an example under the scientific supervision of Prof. Virgolino Jorge and Prof. José Mauel De Mascarenhas from the University of Évora and Dr. Thomas Büttner from the scientific advisory board of Cisterscapes.
