On Saturday, May 9, 2026, a culinary hike will take place in the Loccum monastery landscape along the “Small Monastery Landscape Trail”. Visitors are invited to combine nature, history and regional cuisine. The occasion is the ceremonial unveiling of the European Heritage Label.

The award is associated with the European cooperation project Cisterscapes – Cistercian landscapes connecting Europe. In this network, 17 Cistercian monastic landscapes from five countries have joined forces to make the common cultural heritage of the Cistercians visible and to communicate its importance for the development of Europe.

The event offers the opportunity to experience this European cultural heritage first-hand: Regional restaurateurs present a selection of food and drink along the approximately seven-kilometre hiking trail.

There will also be a public guided tour along the “Small Monastery Landscape Trail” at 2 p.m., during which landscape guide Hans-Georg Sievers will explain the background to the history and significance of the European project.

Program on 09 May 2026:

• 11:00 a.m. – Ceremonial unveiling of the European Heritage Label on the Loccum monastery grounds
• 12:00 – Start of the culinary hiking route
• 14:00 – Public guided tour (starting point at the collegiate church on the monastery grounds)
• 17:00 – Raffle as part of the stamp collection campaign
• 18:00 – Official end of the event
