Special guided tour of the CISTERSCAPES Visitor Center at Zwettl City Hall
30. January 2027 um 14:00 - 15:00
Those interested have the opportunity to explore the “Cisterscapes” exhibition at the Old City Hall during a free guided tour. The interactive exhibition shows how the Cistercian Order has shaped European landscapes since the Middle Ages: monasteries, granges, hydraulic structures, and pond systems left their mark, traces of which are still visible today. The Zwettl city guides offer fascinating insights into the historic monastic landscape, which has been awarded the European Heritage Label.
The Waldviertel carp pond farming system also received a special distinction: it was designated a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The word “Cisterscapes” is a combination of “Cistercian” and “Landscapes.” Translated, it means “Cistercian landscapes.”
