On Saturday, May 9, 2026, you can go on a culinary hike along the “Small Monastery Landscape Trail” in the Loccum monastery landscape. Visitors are invited to combine nature, history and regional cuisine. The occasion is the ceremonial unveiling of the European Heritage Label.

The award is associated with the European cooperation project Cisterscapes – Cistercian landscapes connecting Europe. In this network, 17 Cistercian monastic landscapes from five countries have joined forces to make the common cultural heritage of the Cistercians visible and to communicate its importance for the development of Europe.

The event offers the opportunity to experience this European cultural heritage first-hand: Regional restaurateurs present a selection of food and drink along the approximately seven-kilometre hiking trail.

There will also be a public guided tour along the “Small Monastery Landscape Trail” at 2 p.m., during which landscape guide Hans-Georg Sievers will explain the background to the history and significance of the European project.

Program on 09 May 2026:

  • 11:00 a.m. – Ceremonial unveiling of the European Heritage Label on the Loccum monastery grounds with Abbot Ralf Meister, Mayor Martin Franke and District Administrator Detlev Kohlmeier
  • from 12:00 – Individual hiking with culinary highlights on the Small Monastery Landscape Trail
  • 14:00 – Public guided tour along the Small Monastery Landscape Trail with landscape guide Hans-Georg Sievers (without culinary breaks)
  • 17:00 – Raffle as part of the stamp collection campaign
  • 18:00 – Official end of the event
