A morne, digital tour for smartphones provides information about the Cistercian order in Stiftland. The guide “Cistercians shape the Stiftland – on the trail of the order in the district of Tirschenreuth” can be downloaded free of charge to any smartphone in the Hearonymus app. The audio guide, which lasts around 70 minutes, tells in 29 chapters about the life of the Cistercian monks in the Stiftland region, which was defined by prayer and work, as well as their networks beyond the region. Over the centuries, the “gray monks” created a monastery and cultural landscape that can still be experienced today. The guide helps you to see the traces of the Cistercians in the landscape and understand their significance. It spans a broad arc from the beginnings of monastic life in Waldsassen in the 12th century to the present day. An approximately 60-kilometre loop therefore connects a wide variety of places shaped by the Cistercian heritage. The two centers of monastic life in Stiftland, Waldsassen as the spiritual and Tirschenreuth as the secular, can also be easily explored on foot. “EXTRA chapters” invite you to extend the tour. The map function in the app and information in the individual chapters make it easier to find the respective places. The offer is also barrier-free. The information is also available in English and Czech. The guide can also be used on a smartphone at any time, away from the traces of the Cistercian heritage in Stiftland.
