The commune of Wągrowiec, together with the Regional Museum, is once again taking part in the celebration of the European Heritage Days, the aim of which is historical and cultural education, promoting the diversity of regional cultural heritage, emphasizing the common roots of European culture and promoting intercultural dialogue, which this year takes place under the motto “Trails”. Networks. Connections.” On 27 September 2024, a historical journey in the footsteps of the Cistercians to Poznan and Owińsk was organized in cooperation with the State Archives in Poznan and the Poznan district. During the visit to the archive, the participants had the opportunity to learn about the activities of this institution and the materials stored there – especially the founding documents of the Cistercian Order in Łekno and Wągrowiec.

An extremely interesting point was the visit to a unique place with Cistercian roots – the post-Cistercian monastery complex from the 18th century in Owińska. In the local Education and Training Center for Blind Children – an institution for the education of children and young people with visual impairments – the participants also visited the Typhlological Museum with the largest collection of typhlological maps in Poland and immersed themselves in the enchanted world of the Aromatorium, which is reminiscent of the former working rooms of pharmacists. The fragrance library contains over 6,000 scents, from perfumes to essential oils, herbal extracts, amber dust, locomotive and animal scents.

The trip ended with a walk through the unique spatial orientation park in Europe, which covers an area of around 2.5 hectares and is located in the historic former Cistercian park.
The park, which is part of the SOSW for blind children, was designed to familiarize disabled people with urban space.
