Opening of the “Fish Experience Weeks” in Tirschenreuth
27. September um 10:00 - 17:00
On September 27, 2026, the “Fisch” Experience Weeks will kick off in Tirschenreuth. The specialized departments of IKom Stiftland will offer an extensive, free program of hands-on activities for all ages at the Fischhof grounds. Since the cisterscapes project’s tour will be stopping in the former secular center of the Stiftland region on that day, visitors can go virtual fishing via a VR animation and take part in guided tours on the topic of “Cistercians and Fish.”
Certified tour guide Cornelia Stahl will lead a tour of the Waldnaab Gorge near the Sägmühl Chapel at 2:00 p.m. The gorge is a unique example of the Cistercian monks’ medieval hydraulic engineering.
At 3:30 p.m., she will explain more about the Fischhof Bridge, one of the many impressive structures built by Philipp Muttone, a lay brother from Waldsassen. The bridge, constructed of massive granite blocks, provided access to the Fischhof, the central hub for the monastery’s pond management. For a long time, this site—located in the middle of the vast Upper City Pond—was accessible only by boat or, later, via a footbridge.
