Baroque Virtuoso Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major BWV 1068 Concerto for violin, oboe and orchestra in C minor BWV 1060R Concerto for two violins and orchestra in D minor BWV 1043 George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) Water Music, Suite II in D major Orchestra with Gewandhaus musicians Leipzig Gerd Schaller, conductor Festive baroque music in the Kaisersaal with works by Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel has always been very popular. When musicians from the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra also perform this concert, the crowds are particularly large. Experience has shown that the Leipzig orchestra's traditional guest performance as part of the Ebrach Summer of Music sells out quickly - so it's worth booking your tickets early! Under the title VIRTUOSES BAROQUE, the program this time features true gems of the Baroque repertoire, with the solo concertos presented promising a very special treat for the ears. Johann Sebastian Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3 offers particularly festive sounds, and the famous Air from it is one of Bach's best-known works. His concerto for violin and oboe is often regarded as an adaptation of Bach's earlier harpsichord concerto, with the violin and oboe taking on the role of the harpsichord. In the concerto for two violins, on the other hand, the two soloists enter into an exciting competition. The program is rounded off by the D major suite from Handel's Water Music, which revives the former splendour of a royal river journey. A musical treat that is guaranteed to delight!
