The symposium at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg marked the conclusion and also the highlight of the transnational cooperation project “Culinary Heritage of the Cistercians in Central Europe” (funded by Creative Europe). The three-day program with specialist lectures, workshops and excursions offered an exciting insight into the topic. A highlight of the conference was the presentation of the specialist publication with detailed information on typical monastery products, historical recipes, reports on events held and various educational offers for the public from the last 36 months. The 150-page book will be available to download free of charge until the end of October on our website www.cisterscapes.eu under the heading “Culinary” in three languages (German, Czech and English).

In addition to other guests, around 50 partners and speakers from the Cisterscapes network from Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic took part, as well as representatives from academia and Cistercian research. Not only were the expert panels high-caliber, there were also important representatives from politics: These included Prof. Dr. Josef Schöchl, Deputy Chairman of the Salzburg Parliament (Land Salzburg) and Gritlind Kettl, Head of the EU Citizens’ Service, Europe Direct and China Office (Land Salzburg). Among those present from the district of Bamberg (DE) were District Administrator Johann Kalb and Mayor Daniel Vinzens from the market town of Ebrach.
