The 5,000 km long cultural hiking trail leads through 6 European countries. It primarily connects the monasteries and landscapes of the Cisterscapes network. Of course, it also visits many other amazing sights along the way.
Cistercian monasteries were typically located in marginal regions, which the monks often first cultivated and thus left a lasting mark on. Even today, the “Cistercian Way” leads through particularly unspoilt landscapes full of regional specialities and architectural treasures.
In the course of 2022, the first sections of the cistercian trail will be ceremoniously opened. Since the long-distance hiking trail uses existing markings, you can already make your way through the monastic landscapes.
